New London Pride: August
OutCT is a non-profit organization established in 2013 by a diverse group of members of the LGBT community and their allies. The group is based in Southeastern Connecticut. Their mission each year is to plan a New London Pride Festival. However, recently, they realized they had enough interest and energy to do more. In addition to a pride festival, OutCT has planned art exhibits, film series, educational forums, drag shows, and youth programs. Through these activities, OutCT hopes to build an accepting and tolerant community.
OutCT seeks to do so much for the community outside of LGBT issues as well. For instance, they wish to provide opportunities for people to celebrate their sexual orientations and gender identities. In other areas of social activism, the group wants to support and develop community groups, promote human and civil rights, work against prejudice and discrimination, and foster economic growth in the area. OutCT works toward these ends by partnering with corporations and community groups for education and outreach. Additionally, they publish a yearly resource guide, as well as a website and/or newsletter for the education of others. In the end, all of this work behind the scenes leads to an amazing pride celebration each year.
- The 2017 Pride festival at Ocean Beach Park kicks off with The National Anthem sung by the Gay Men’s Chorus and the music and entertainment will continue all day and into the early evening.
- Bands include the popular Sister Funk, Llama Tsunami, Carrie Aston Band, and many others!
- Additionally, there will be a “Youth Explosion” with ice cream and games for kids and teens
- Vendor booths from community groups, merchandise, and other activities like henna and face painting.
- Finally, get excited for an all-day volleyball tournament on the beach!
