nature hike

enjoy a refreshing morning walking tour of scenic honeymoon island! named for the 50 thatched honeymoon huts built there in the 1940s, this island would draw one hundred newlyweds at a time who would be flown in and out at the shore. known for its flora and fauna, the island is now home to a state park with miles of beautiful trails for interpretive walks.

our invigorating nature hike will start along a sliver of gorgeous coastline along the causeway, then up into the park where we head to the nearby osprey trailhead, to meet our park ranger for an 11 am guided tour. through the trail we will walk under the majestic virgin slash pines and view the island’s abundant wildlife, including gopher tortoises, osprey, bald eagles, great horned owls, scaups, kestrels and many other shorebirds. we will stop at the park’s picnic area for a break to eat our packed lunch after the tour, then head back to our arrival point along the causeway. total distance will be approximately 6.5 miles.

Complete details coming soon! I will tell you this….the research for this event was not relaxing. We were planning a 5-6 mile hike, well our event planner Barbara miscalculated the distance and we hiked 11 miles! It took us 4 hours. It was a total bitch. We’ve got the pictures posted on our Facebook fan page. I’ll get them up here too. It was a strenuous hike! We were both hurting the next day and the day after that!

  2. Laura says:

How can I get more information on this hike?

    • robert says:

      Laura, thanks for your interest!
January event details to be posted on 1.5.10
There’ll be an email going out to all O&A Members, we’ll be sure you’re kept in the loop. Watch your inbox for an an email coming from O&A Events.
We look forward to seeing you at future O&A Events.

I would love to see more, less formal events like this on the schedule. All we really need is a basic plan, meeting place/date/time and the admission price if any; and maybe simple plans for lunch or dinner.

      Hey John!
All O&A Events get thoroughly researched and meticulously planned by our full-time event planners before being posted to our web site. For the hike we’re working on we mapped out the trail ahead of time by hiking 11 miles in four hours as part of our research in addition to making arrangements with a forest ranger to provide a guided tour.
O&A Events set an expectation for its members that all they need to do is show up….all the details have been addressed ahead of time….reminder emails go out to those that register for events, name badges are waiting upon arrival, O&A Hosts are on hand at each event…we create event experiences that we ourselves would want to attend.
We look forward to seeing you at an upcoming event so you can experience an O&A Event first hand!

  4. Mike says:

    Bob,

Is this event going to be re-scheduled soon? I love hiking!! Thanks.

    • robert says:

We have a tentative date in March that we are in the process of firming up now! Within the next two weeks all details will nailed down and event posted. Thanks for your interest, we look forward to seeing you at an upcoming O&A Event!

  5. Lee Mueller says:

We’re all signed up and ready to roll!

  6. Scotty says:

Ok, I just happened upon this and signed up. It’s not on the O&A facebook page?? We almost missed it.

Not every event makes it to our Facebook Group page. In this instance, the event is selling so quickly that it will not likely be posted to Facebook. However, as a Facebook Fan we provide advance information and other tidbits not found anywhere else.
However, ALL current and up to date information will ALWAYS be found on our web site AND in our WEEKLY EVENT UPDATE EMAILS.
      I’m glad you found it!!

Have something to say?
