Thanks for writing, Jessica! We have had lots of interest in this and positive feedback, so I think we’ll have a good group attending. If you have already registered for our bookclub membership (see details above), I’ll mark you down to attend. Thanks again!
Barbara,
I just registered for the annual dues and I have the book. See you soon!
Jessica
Great! Hope you enjoy reading it. Can’t wait to hear your thoughts about it!
I can’t put the book down! I love it so far! See you girls next week. Enjoy!
Jessica
Sounds like a great time, looking forward to it!
It’s great that you can join us, Jen!
Yee Haw, love it! I have never been to that restaurant. Any good?
It’s FANTASTIC. You’ll love it! Giddy up!
Count me in for the 17th. Sounds like Fun. Where is the link to order book for $6? I must be missing it. Also, this book isn’t available on ebook format. I’d love it if future books were (if possible) just because with travel my Kindle works better for me.
Cathy, great to have you join us! Sorry about that — the image/link for the book is momentarily down. We’ll get it back up asap, and in the meanwhile, if you want this one in ebook format, you can get it at Bella Books in pdf or mobi. http://www.bellabooks.com
Thanks for the ebook info, Barbara. I’ll check it out!
Hey everyone new to this would love to come out and meet some other book reader fans.Let me know what I need to do to join.
Hi, Teri — all you have to do to join is register above, next to the annual membership dues info. Once you register, you can come to as many of the book club meetings as you want throughout the year, where you’ll get special perks and prizes — along with scintillating discussions about the books, of course!
We’d love to have you join us!
Hello! I just came across your site and wanted to extend an offer to your members. I am the author of Megan’s Way, a work of literary fiction that explores the depth of the mother-daughter bond and the intricacies of friendship – One woman’s journey, her daughter’s will to survive, and a circle of friends shrouded in secrets.
One of my favorite things about being an author is chatting with readers. If you select Megan’s Way, as a group or individually, I’d love to discuss the book with you.
Sincerely,
Melissa Foster
Melissa — wow! What a lovely invitation and wonderful opportunity! We are planning our upcoming book selections soon, so this came at a great time. Expect to hear from us! Best wishes, Barbara
Hi Barbara, just letting you know Stephanie and I plan to attend
Thanks!
Yay!!
It’ll be great to have you there!
I can’t wait for our meeting! Remember to register with shopping cart above if you haven’t already, so that you can join us for the fun!
And as you finish the book, here are a few questions to ponder:
1. how did the use of flashback and flashforward work for you? did it add something to the story? if so, what?
2. how about the “backslide” episodes? what were they? what significance did they have?
3. what did “backsliding” mean to this story? did the author use the concept well, or not, and why?
4. how did the setting in the late 60s add to the story?
5. this story raised a number of political and religious issues — how did it handle those issues?
6. what significance did being “saved” have for Virge? did Mrs. Rosenbaum, as a holocaust survivor, serve as a counterpart for that notion?
7. was the use of metaphor effective in this story? among others, what was the significance of using the snakes? the machete?
8. loss is a constant refrain for Virge in this novel – how does that shape her?
9. if there was a “point” of or lesson learned from Virge’s story, what was it?
10. for whom do you think this story was being told?
11. did you gain any insights from this story? surprises? light moments?
Enjoyed the book club event! It was my first book club and I wasn’t sure what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised. Great restaurant, good discussion and fun and friendly women. Thanks Barbara.
Loved having you there, Cathy! Thanks for all of your great insights!
