‘Gunn’ Gunnunderson is out-and-proud at college, but wrestles with revealing his true sexuality to his parents when he comes home for Christmas break.
This isn’t just any holiday in the Gunnunderson home – Mom bakes hundreds of cookies each year, there are family gatherings galore and there are the neighbors (especially the patient Abby, his high-school sweetheart) to consider.
Meanwhile, Gunn’s wealthy and worldly boyfriend Nathan finds himself adrift in his family’s New York penthouse when his parents decide to go on a cruise, so he makes an un- announced trip to the Midwest, electing to spend the holidays with Gunn’s family. Suddenly relegated to ‘roommate’ status, Nathan good-naturedly goes along with the ruse – for a bit.
The boys scramble, in between furtive makeout sessions, to keep Gunn’s sexuality a secret from his parents, the perennially stoned Sven and the reindeer-festooned Anya. Anya is a deliciously over-the-top mom, gushing over Nathan’s cute underwear, drunk on holiday cheer, and engaging in quiet domestic warfare with Abby’s divorce’ mom, played with malicious glee by Alison Amgrin (Nellie from Little House on the Prairie).
As the holiday progresses, the conversations and questions grow increasingly inquisi- tive and Nathan grows increasing disappointed in Gunn. With pressure mounting from all sides, Gunn must decide whether to come out before the truth does.
Rob Williams will be in attendance for Q&A after the screening.
