St Pete Mayoral Candidate Debate

Where: King of Peace, MCC Church, 3150 5th Ave N, St. Petersburg, FL 33713
When: Monday June 22, 2009 at 6:30
Sponsored By: St. Pete Pride and King of Peace, MCC Church

St Pete Pride, the largest not-for-profit GLBT event in Florida, will be held on June 27th, 2009. St. Pete Pride will bring in 70,000 people to St. Petersburg on Saturday. As part of the official functions for that week St. Pete Pride and King of Peace Metropolitan Community Church have partnered to present a Mayoral forum and debate on Monday, June 22nd 2009. The debate will begin at 6:30 pm at King of Peace at 3150 5th Ave N in St. Petersburg. It will be followed at 8:30 by a reception for all candidates for City office at 8:30.
The City of St. Petersburg has been very receptive to the GLBT community over the past few years but the Mayor has never attended a public function of St. Pete Pride despite the substantial financial benefit to the city from our events. It is our hope that we can open a dialogue with all the city officers’ current and future to ensure that the GLBT community is recognized for their contribution to our community and not used as tool to divide the city.
As of May 29, 2009 Four of the invited Candidates, Jamie Bennet, Kathleen Ford, Devon Gibbons and Scott Wagman have indicated that they will participate. Pride is waiting for responses from invited guest Bill Foster and Larry Williams.
Rev. Dr. Candace Shultis, Pastor of King of Peace MCC, will moderate the debate.
Questions can be directed to David Schauer of the St. Pete Pride Board of Directors at 727-688-8283 or by email at david.schauer@stpetepride.com.
