Should it be legal to fire gay and transgender people in Gainesville?

On March 24th, voters will decide whether to remove sexual orientation and gender identity from the Gainesville Human Rights Ordinance.

The local team, led by Equality Florida’s very own Joe Saunders, is doing an amazing job. Hundreds of volunteers are going door to door and phone banking to educate voters on the damage that will be done if existing discrimination protections are stripped out of the city’s Charter.

That’s why it’s critical for you to forward this email to everyone you know in Florida. Ask them to forward it to anyone they know who lives, works or goes to school in Gainesville.

Equality Florida has been a proud partner and lead supporter of the effort to oppose Charter Amendment 1 in Gainesville. Sending Joe to Gainesville, especially during out busiest time of year – Legislative Session, was a huge sacrifice but one we were willing to make because we understood the tremendous importance of this effort.

We also asked you to invest in the local campaign and you came through. We did this because this local fight has statewide, even national implications.

We know, if the extremists succeed in a progressive town like Gainesville, they will export their repeal strategy across Florida and the nation.

The great news is that our mutual investments are paying off. In this final week before Election Day (March 24th), the Gainesville team has put out an amazingly powerful commercial that we want you to distribute far and wide.
